The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee launched a third ad hitting State Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean (R-Westfield) on health care Friday.
The new 30-second spot, titled “Wrong,” attacks Kean over contributions the Republican received from the health care and insurance industries over the duration of his political career and jabs him for opposing a 2010 resolution urging then-Gov. Chris Christie to keep the state out of Republican suits seeking to strike the Affordable Care Act.
Script: Tom Kean, Jr. is exactly what’s wrong with politics. In Trenton, Kean’s campaign has taken money hand over fist from special interests… Amassing nearly $1 million from the health and insurance industries… While refusing to protect our health care. Kean opposed protections for preexisting conditions…and he even opposed a plan to lower the cost of prescription drugs. If we couldn’t trust Tom Kean in Trenton, why would we trust him in Washington?
The ad moves between hyper-saturated images of Kean and similarly-saturated photos of a wheel chair and dollar bills as text attacking his record appears on screen.
It’s not clear what the ad’s attack on prescription drug costs refers to. It cites an unspecified Facebook post dated May 12, 2020.
Kean last year sponsored a bipartisan bill limiting residents’ share of the costs for some prescription drugs. The bill unanimously passed in both chambers and was signed into law on Jan. 21, 2020.
