DCCC ad hits Kean over healthcare record

By Nikita Biryukov, September 01 2020 9:47 am

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee went up on the air in the seventh congressional district to hammer State Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean (R-Westfield) over healthcare Tuesday.

The TV ad alleging Kean, who is running against Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) in the seventh congressional district, “took nearly a million dollars from the health and insurance industries,” “voted against a plan to provide affordable health care” and “opposed protecting coverage for preexisting conditions” went up on the air Tuesday.

The ad features a narrator questioning Kean’s position on healthcare issues as a series of faux headlines citing parts of Kean’s voting record appear on phones and newspapers over a coffee table.

Script:  What does it say about Tom Kean, Jr…That Kean’s campaigns took nearly a million dollars from the health and insurance industries? That he voted against a plan to provide affordable health care? And opposed protecting coverage for preexisting conditions? And in the middle of a pandemic…with thousands dying.  What does it say that a lawsuit Kean supported would take away health care from millions? What does it say about Tom Kean, Jr? Everything we need to know.

It’s not clear how long the 30-second spot, titled “What Does It Say,” will run in the expensive New York media market that covers the seventh district.
