U.S. Senator Bob Menendez is raising money for Democrat Theresa Greenfield, who is seeking to challenge incumbent Joni Ernst for Iowa’s U.S. Senate seat.
“In the last three years, we’ve seen Donald Trump tear this nation apart. To enumerate each of his catastrophically short-sided and hateful decisions would require a couple dozen emails,” Menendez said in an e-mail fundraising solicitation. “And Mitch McConnell has enabled him every step of the way.”
Ernst won the seat in 2014, largely boosted by a 30-second TV ad that featured her talking about castrating pigs on the Iowa farm where she grew up.
“So when I get to Washington, I’ll know how to cut pork,” she said. “Washington is full of big spenders. Let’s make ’em squeal.”
Two years later, Ernst received some consideration to become Trump’s running mate.
Menendez has a lot at stake in the next election: if Democrats win the U.S. Senate, he’ll regain the chairmanship of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
