Malinowski lead now 11,398 as more Morris votes tallied

Republican Thomas Kean, Jr. now trails Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski by 11,398 in the race for New Jersey’s 7th district congressional seat after more ballots were counted in Morris County on Tuesday.

Malinowski now leads Kean, 194,001 to 182,503, 51.5%-48.5%.

The freshman congressman’s lead has fallen from an election night plurality of 28,412 against Kean, the State Senate minority Leader.

An additional 2,653 votes from Morris County were added to the tally early this evening.

In Union County, where 9,630 more votes were tallied, Malinowski’s margin dropped from 13,439 to 12,297.   It’s still not clear how many more 7th district ballots are left in Union.

There are 21,279 uncounted ballots from the Morris portion of the 7th district

No new votes are expected to be added to the total today.

Hunterdon, where there are less than 5,000 uncounted votes remaining, will not add more votes until Thursday.  Neither will Warren.

Somerset is expected to release their next batch of votes on Friday.

Essex, which has only Millburn in the 7th, could tally provisional ballots as early as tomorrow.

While the race has tightened, Kean’s path to a victory is possible but extremely narrow.
