Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield) announced today that he’ll sit on the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the 118th Congress – the same committee where Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes), Kean’s predecessor in New Jersey’s 7th district, served as vice chair until Kean unseated him.

“Now more than ever, we need strength to confront the many challenges that the United States and our allies face across the globe,” Kean said in a statement. “I look forward to working with Chairman [Michael] McCaul and Committee members on both sides of the aisle to achieve our foreign policy goals and protect vital U.S. interests abroad.”

McCaul, the committee’s new chairman, said that he was happy to have Kean added to the committee.

“I am pleased the House Republican Steering Committee recommended Congressman Kean to the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” McCaul said. “I look forward to working with him to accomplish our foreign policy goals and protect America’s interests abroad.”

Kean previously announced that he will be a member of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, another committee on which Malinowski once sat.
