Kim leads by 3,427 with all mail-in ballots counted

MacArthur victory increasingly unlikely

Andy Kim’s lead over Rep. Tom MacArthur grew to 3,427 after all mail-in ballots in Ocean and Bergen counties were tallied Friday.

Kim has 150,405 votes. MacArthur has 146,978.

The distance puts MacArthur at a significant disadvantage. There are roughly 6,500 provisional ballots that have not yet been counted. 2,404 of those are in the Ocean County portion of the district. Roughly 4,000 are in Burlington County.

While MacArthur is expected to win a majority of Ocean County’s provisional votes, the same is true for Kim in Burlington.

Unless the vast majority of provisional ballots in both counties break for the congressman — an unlikely scenario — Democrats will control 11 of New Jersey’s 12 House seats.

Those ballots are due to be counted on Monday or Tuesday after they are validated by the counties’ superintendents of elections. Boards of Elections in Burlington and Ocean are aiming to put a final, official vote tally out on Wednesday.
