Kennedy gets boost from gun safety group

By David Wildstein, June 03 2020 12:29 pm

Democratic congressional candidate Amy Kennedy has been named the 2020 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate Distinction from Everytown for Gun Safety, giving her significant recognition from one of the nation’s top gun safety advocacy organizations.

“As a mother of five and a former teacher who dealt with the tragic reality of having to talk to kids about school shootings, I know what a serious issue gun violence is in our society and in our community,” said Kennedy, one of five Democrats seeking the chance to take on Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) in New Jersey’s 2nd district. “I believe that no one should live in fear of gun violence. In Congress, I will work tirelessly to protect our children and our communities from gun violence.”

Moms Demand Action is part of Everytown for Gun Safety, a group that has nearly six million supporters and volunteer groups in all 50 states.

Before his party switch, Van Drew faced criticism in the 2018 Democratic congressional primary for his 100% rating from the National Rifle Association.
