Irvington Democrats go for Tammy Murphy

Tammy Murphy has picked up endorsements of Irvington Democrats, including Mayor Tony Vauss and State Sen. Renee Burgess, in her bid for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Irvington is New Jersey’s 24th-largest municipality.

“Her dedication, compassion, and unwavering support have made a significant impact on the community of Irvington,” said Vauss.  “Throughout the economic hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, First Lady Tammy Murphy has been a pillar of strength for the township of Irvington.  Her efforts to address the challenges faced by the community have been commendable.  Her dedication to ensuring the well-being and prosperity of the residents has not gone unnoticed.”

In addition to Vauss and Burgess, Murphy was also endorsed by Essex County Commissioner Romaine Graham, Democratic Municipal Chair Annette Beasley, and the entire town council: Jamillah Beasley, October Hudley, Charnette Frederic, Sean Evans, Orlander Glen Vick, Darlene Brown and Vern Cox.

“The overwhelming support from every elected official in Irvington speaks volumes about the trust and respect they have for First Lady Tammy Murphy,” Vauss said.

Vauss is the first Essex mayor, and Graham is the first county commissioner to publicly announce their support of Murphy for the Senate seat currently held by indicted Democrat Bob Menendez.   Menendez has not said if he will seek re-election.

Murphy also faces Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) and former Newark school board member Lawrence Hamm in the Democratic Senate primary.

Essex County Democratic Chairman LeRoy Jones, Jr. has already endorsed Murphy.
