House candidate Kate Gibbs attacked rival Republican David Richter over a mailer sent by U.S. Senate candidate Hirsh Singh, calling on the former Hill International CEO to pull out of any events that involved Singh.
“Hirsh Singh’s recent mailer openly advocating for voter fraud is one of the more outrageous and ridiculous things I’ve ever seen a candidate put in a piece of literature — and that’s saying something” Gibbs’ Campaign Manager Angelo Lamberto said. “Given that David Richter has so closely tied himself to Singh and are running as a united ticket in Burlington and Ocean County, I am concerned about the potential impact this misinformation campaign may have on voters already confused by this chaotic election cycle.”
Richter and Singh both have the line in Ocean County, while Gibbs and U.S. Senate candidate Rik Mehta have organizational support in Burlington County.
“This is a desperate move from a desperate campaign in the closing weeks of a failing candidacy,” Richter campaign manager Tom Bonfonti said. “We are not dignifying this with any further response.”
Singh’s mailer asked voters who had cast ballots supporting Mehta to request and mail in a second ballot marked with a vote for him.
Attorney General Gurbir Grewal sent Singh a cease and desist letter, warning the mailer violated federal and state election law.
There’s little reason for voter fraud concern over duplicate mail-in ballots. New Jersey’s Statewide Voter Registration System has failsafes in place to prevent residents from casting multiple ballots, and duplicate ballots would not be counted.
