Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali, a candidate for the Republican nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th district, is calling for the establishment of a task force armed with budget and authority to combat racism in America.
“Elected officials, the media, and our educational institutions must stop activities that perpetuate separatism and divide among races, ethnic groups … and instead support the diversity of our nation by simply recognizing that we all should be treated equally wherein there is neither any discrimination against any groups nor any favoritism for any groups,” Ghassali said.
Ghassali says the government “must support a strong criminal justice system that holds criminals responsible, and they must support keeping guns out of the hands of people who are just waiting for an opportunity to kill others.”
“Prayers are important, because we are One Nation Under God. But we need to act upon our prayers,” Ghassali said. “Unfortunately, local mayors and councilpersons have no jurisdiction or power to affect policy changes regarding criminal laws; nationwide changes must come from Washington (from Congress).”
