ERA ratification movement adds Gottheimer to co-sponsor list

8 of 12 New Jersey House members now seek extension to ratify Equal Right Amendment

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) has signed on as a co-sponsor of a move to extend the deadline for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.

Gottheimer on Friday became the 8th member of the New Jersey House delegation to co-sponsor the resolution, which would extend the deadline to ratify the ERA.

Congress approved the ERA in 1972, but ratification fell three states short even after an extension to 1982.  Two more states have since ratified the amendment, and with the Virginia lower house in play this year, there is a drive to grant another extension.

Gottheimer joins Reps. Tom Malinowski (D-Rocky Hill), Donald Norcross (D-Camden), Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch), Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson),  Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), Albio Sires (D-West New York) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing) as co-sponsors.

  1. AGAIN, IF I MAY,
THE PURPOSE OF OUR ERA BILL WE OF NATIONAL EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT ALLIANCE INC 501C3, IS NOT TO “EXTEND” THE SPECIOUS DEADLINE, BUT TO END THE DEADLINE ADDED BY OPPONENTS IN 1982.
Small difference, maybe. But OUR CONSTITUTIONAL ATTORNEYS ARE READY FOR THE OBSOLETE PUSHBACK BY THE OTHER PARTY. BRING IT ON!
