Republican congressional candidate Brian Fitzherbert has picked a political consulting firm headed by Ted Cruz’s 2016 campaign manager and the polling firm founded by Kellyanne Conway to help his bid to oust freshman Rep. Jeff Van Drew in New Jersey’s 2nd district.
Fitzherbert says he’ll be using Axiom Strategies partner Evan Kozlow, a former executive director of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee and who served as NRCC deputy executive director and as campaign manager for Tom Kean’s Jr.’s 2006 U.S. Senate race. He’ll also work with Ethan Zorfas, who was the Cruz deputy national political director. The founder of Axiom is Jeff Roe, who ran the Cruz campaign.
Brett Lloyd of The Polling Company will also work for Fitzherbert. Lloyd was recently fired by Donald Trump’s re-election campaign after internal polls that showed Joe Biden ahead in several key states were leaked to the press.
The Prosper Group will handle digital media for the Fitzherbert campaign. The firm’s founder, Kristen Luidhardt, was a senior member Trump’s digital operation and handled digital media for Mike Pence’s gubernatorial campaign.
Fitzherbert said that Amanda Woloshen Glass, a former campaign manager and state director for Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton Township), will also be part of his campaign team.
Republicans think Van Drew, unbeatable during his seventeen years in the New Jersey Legislature, is vulnerable after winning 53% against former Atlantic County freeholder Seth Grossman last year.
Trump won the 2nd district by 14,830 votes (50%-46%) in 2016.
The seat was held for 24 years by Republican Frank LoBiondo (R-Ventnor), who did not seek re-election in 2018.
