The New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association has endorsed Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark) for re-election in New Jersey’s 10th district.
Payne faces two opponents in the June 7 Democratic primary, Essex County College Sociology professor Akil Khalfani and Imani Oakley, who has worked for several people over the last few years. The 10th in one of the most Democratic congressional districts in the country.
“Congressman Payne has always been a strong ally for first responders and for labor unions, working for years on legislation that enables emergency service personnel to purchase innovative technologies that keep our first responders and the public safe,” said NJ FMBA president Eddie Donnelly. “As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, the Congressman has shown an intricate understanding of the needs of emergency personnel and first responders and his commitment to public safety is paramount.”
Donnelly was among a large group of labor leaders who hosted a high-profile fundraiser for Payne last week.
