Ex-Somerset sheriff backs Richter, slams Gibbs as a ‘convicted shoplifter’

Provenzano: ‘She should not be allowed to enact the laws of our country if she is not willing to comply with them’

Former Somerset County Sheriff Frank Provenzano, who has lived in Ocean County for two months, is taking sides in the Republican primary for Conrgess in New Jersey’s 3rd district and slamming one of the candidates.

Provenzano is backing David Richter in his bid to take on Rep. Andy Kim (D-Marlton) and used his endorsement to take a shot at Richter’s main opponent for the nomination, former Burlington County freeholder director Kate Gibbs.

“David is an outstanding candidate for Congress, and he has my full support,” said Provenzano.  “Kate Gibbs, on the other hand, as a convicted shoplifter is unfit to serve the citizens of the Third District in Congress or in any other elected capacity.  She should not be allowed to enact the laws of our country if she is not willing to comply with them.”

Provenzano, the former president of the Sheriff’s Association of New Jersey, did not seek re-election in 2019 and left office in January after 18 years as sheriff.

“I am very appreciative of Frank’s endorsement, which is in recognition of my full support for our men and women in blue who put their lives at risk every day to keep the rest of us safe,” Richter said. “I look forward to representing and defending our law enforcement community as a member of Congress.”
