Carpenters union backs Malinowski in NJ-7

The Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters has endorsed Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) for re-election a to a third term in the U.S. House of Representatives in New Jersey’s 7th district.

“Having leaders in Washington that step up for hard-working union families and fights for real investment for them is important.,” said William C. Sproule, the union’s Executive Secretary-Treasurer.“  We stand behind Congressman Malinowski’s re-election and are committed to working with him to ensure the infrastructure investment he fought so hard  for puts skilled New Jersey workers in the best position to support their families.”

The carpenters union endorsement is usually accompanied by money and volunteers.

“Congressman Malinowski was one of the strongest supporters in passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill which will provide the long-needed funding for the  Gateway Project which will put thousands of people to work,”  Assistant Executive Secretary-Treasurer Anthony Abrantes said. “Union carpenters will not only build these projects but support those who supported these jobs.”

Malinowski, who flipped a Republican seat in 2018 for the first time since 1996, faces a tough re-election campaign in a newly-drawn district that have become more favorable to the GOP after last year’s remap.   He faces a potential rematch with former Senate Minority Leader Thomas Kean, Jr., who came within one percentage point of unseating him in 2002.

Kean has secured organization lines in Hunterdon, Morris and Union counties and the endorsement of the Warren GOP.  He faces Assemblyman Erik Peterson (R-Franklin), businessman John Henry Isemann, and former gubernatorial candidate Phil Rizzo in the June GOP primary.
