Bennett may seek Van Drew seat

By David Wildstein, December 14 2019 8:42 pm

Atlantic County Freeholder Ashley Bennett is expected to seek the Democratic nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 2nd District, the New Jersey Globe has learned.

Bennett spoke with potential supporters about getting into the race earlier today after word broke that freshman Rep. Jeff Van Drew was switching parties and becoming a Republican.

She won an upset victory in a 2017 freeholder race, ousting a GOP incumbent.

It’s not immediately clear if Van Drew will seek re-election to a second term.
