State Sen. Michael Testa, Jr. (R-Vineland), the Cumberland County Republican Chairman, will support Jack Ciattarelli for governor.
Testa, who praised Doug Steinhardt when he entered the race last month, becomes the ninth county chairman and third state senator to endorse Ciattarelli.
“First, I want to commend Doug Steinhardt for his friendship to me and his leadership of our party,” Testa said. “With Doug’s decision to end his campaign, Jack Ciattarelli is clearly the frontrunner for the nomination of our party, and I am confident he can defeat Phil Murphy in November.”
Testa is viewed as a rising star in state GOP politics after ousting incumbent State Sen. Bob Andrzejczak (D-Middle) in 2019.
“Jack and I have known each other since I’ve become Chairman, we’ve broken bread together, and he was there for me when I ran for the Senate,” the freshman senator said. “Together, Republicans need to unite, win back legislative seats, and make Murphy ‘one and done in ’21’ and I am ready to be a leader in that fight.”
Ciattarelli has gained county chair endorsements in Essex, Passaic, Gloucester, Salem and Ocean counties since Monday evening.
He also has the support of State Sens. Christopher Brown (R-Ventnor) and Christopher Bateman (R-Branchburg).
