Republican incumbent Kevin French appears to have defeated Democrat Blake Richardson in the race for Harrison Township Committee on Tuesday, winning by just 42 votes in one of Gloucester County’s closest elections.
With 100% of districts reporting, French received 2,788 votes, or 50.25%, to Richardson’s 2,746 votes, or 49.50%. Fourteen write-in votes accounted for the remaining 0.25%.
A total of 5,548 votes were cast in the contest.
French’s narrow victory came as Democrats made significant gains across New Jersey, underscoring the competitive political environment in Gloucester County.
The unofficial results leave French with a margin of less than one percentage point, making the contest one of the closest local races in the county.
The results remain subject to certification.
