A group of Burlington County Democratic leaders, led by Willingboro Mayor Samantha Whitfield, has endorsed Ras Baraka for governor in the June 10 Democratic primary.
The endorsers include Burlington Township Mayor Pete Green, Willingboro Councilwomen Rebecca Perrone and Kaya McIntosh, Lumberton Councilman Terrence Benson, former Willingboro Mayor Marin Nock, and former Westhampton Mayor C. Andre Daniels.
“We’ve seen a lot of politicians talk about change, but Mayor Baraka has delivered it,” stated Whitfield. “Newark’s progress is undeniable – affordable housing, community safety, economic renaissance, and that experience matters. Real leadership means delivering results, not just promises. Ras Baraka has transformed Newark against the odds, and he’s the leader who can bring that same transformation to all of New Jersey.”
Baraka said his path to winning the Democratic nomination for governor “runs right through Willingboro.” The municipality has roughly 17,200 registered Democrats, and nearly 73% of its residents are Black.
“This endorsement proves what we’ve said from day one: this is a statewide movement. From Essex to Burlington, working families are demanding a government that puts the people over the privileged few,” Baraka said. “Together, we’re building a coalition that reflects the people of this state, and we’re ready to deliver real change from the ground up.”
