The Atlantic City PBA Local 24 has endorsed Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. for re-election, praising his commitment to local law enforcement and crime fighting and overlooking his indictment on charges that he hit his daughter and then told her to lie about it.

Small, who faces union leader Bob McDevitt in the June 10 Democratic primary, has denied the allegations against him.

“Since taking office, your commitment to public safety and community partnerships has strengthened our ability to protect and serve the residents of Atlantic City,” PBA President Jules Schwenger said in his endorsement letter.  “We have seen increased resources for training, modernized equipment and more effective communication channels. Because of your steadfast support and the stellar work of our professional force, crime rates have declined.”

The endorsement was unanimous and recognized the charges against Small.

“While we acknowledge that you face personal legal matters, our endorsement reflects your leadership and accomplishment in office,” Schwenger stated.  “We trust the legal process to take its course and remain focused on choosing the best leader for Atlantic City’s future.”
