Gottheimer’s Dragon-hoard grows to nearly $13 million after record quarter

New Jersey Democrat sets personal best record in Q2 fundraising

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Tenafly), the Human Fundraising Machine, has a Midasian $12.8 million cash on hand after completing his best quarter since first running for Congress in 2015, with a colossal $1.9 million fundraising haul in April, May, and June of this year.

That brings Gottheimer’s total haul this cycle to more than $5.34 million.

Since his first campaign a decade ago, Gottheimer has raised a cyclopean $44 million to win and keep his seat as the congressman from New Jersey’s 5th district.

Gottheimer faces Republican Sean Kirrane, a political newcomer, in the fall.  Kirrane raised less than Gottheimer as of his last report in May — $40,420 total — but his second quarter report isn’t due until Wednesday.

A former Clinton White House speechwriter, Gottheimer launched his campaign to unseat seven-term Rep. Scott Garrett in March 2015 and raised $4.8 million to help him flip the 5th district by four percentage points, even as Donald Trump was winning the same district by one point.  He’s been re-elected four times, defeating Republican Mary Jo Guinchard in 2024 by 11 points.

His fundraising numbers don’t include his leadership PAC and joint fundraising accounts.  Over the last decade, he’s raised over $12 million for Democratic candidates and political organizations across the U.S.

A close ally of Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Gottheimer stands to increase his clout next year if Democrats take control of the House and elect Jeffries as Speaker.

In 2025, Gottheimer transferred about $9.6 million from his congressional campaign account to his super PAC to run for governor.  He’s more than halfway toward replenishing that amount.
