None of New Jersey’s twelve House seats are on the list of 18 Toss-Up races nationally, according to the Cook Political Report, the dominant independent prognosticator of federal elections in the U.S.
New Jersey’s 9th district seat occupied by freshman Rep. Nellie Pou (D-North Haledon) is listed as Lean Democrat. Pou was a late entrant into the race following the death of Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-North Haledon) and won by less than five percentage points (12,575 votes) in a +1 Trump district.
Cook Political Report puts two-term Rep. Thomas Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) in the Lean Republican column in the 7th district. Kean was re-elected last year by 23,306 votes, a 5.4% margin. Trump won the district by one point in 2024.
This week, Rebecca Bennett, a former Navy helicopter pilot, announced her bid for the Democratic nomination to take on Kean.
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Tenafly) is considered Likely Democrat. The other nine members of the House delegation are considered safe.
Prempeh is expected to launch his fourth House race; he lost twice to Bill Pascrell in contests that became increasingly closer.
