Do you know what they call a presidential election in New Jersey? The opening act of a gubernatorial campaign.
So here we are, marking the end of 2024 and the start of 2025 – an election cycle that actually began more than three years ago. With twelve election days in New Jersey in 2024, New Jersey is actually the state that never sleeps. Maybe we should tax New York for that?
For the seventh time, the New Jersey Globe presents our annual Year in Review, a look back at the people and the news that, for better or worse, make the Garden State the most exciting in American politics.
Every election is important, but 2024 may be one of those cycles we remember for a long, long time. It started (although we didn’t know it at the time) in 2022 when FBI agents executing a search warrant at the home of a United States Senator found wads of cash and gold bars in a bedroom closet. Now, the county organization line appears to be gone, and New Jersey has a new senator.
Have a very Happy New Year.
