More than half of New Jerseyans who have requested an absentee ballot have now voted, according to an analysis by Associated Press elections researcher Ryan Dubicki.
About 548,000 New Jerseyans have voted as of Thursday, according to the analysis. 1.083 million have requested absentee ballots.
Slightly more than 61% of returned ballots belong to registered Democrats. Republicans account for 20.5% of submitted ballots, and unaffiliated voters have sent in 17.9% of ballots.
In total, Democrats have submitted 335,708 ballots, Republicans have sent in 112,729, and unaffiliated voters have filled out 97,916.
Early ballots from Democrats, who are more likely to vote early and have more registered voters in the state, generally outnumber Republican mail-in votes.
Dubicki wrote that at this point in 2022, voters had returned 38.4% of requested absentee ballots.
In the competitive 7th congressional district, Democrats make up a smaller share of votes than in 2022 (49.0% in 2024 vs. 58.1% in 2022), though it’s unclear how that will translate to final vote counts.
Nearly 60,000 New Jerseyans have voted in the 7th district.
