Winner Losers
LOU STELLATO TIFFANIE FISHER
The Bergen County Democratic Chairman presides over a smooth coronation of a new senator and appears headed toward a seamless selection of two new state assembly members.  This guy has figured out how to run a party organization.  The Hoboken city councilwoman is ousted from her post as Democratic municipal chair in a landslide, an amazing condemnation of her leadership and an incredible show of support for Mayor Ravi Bhalla.
MIKIE SHERRILL ANN GROSSI
The front runner for the Democratic nomination for Congress in NJ-11 has raised more than twice the combined total of what the  last 16 Democratic candidates (1986-2016) raised. The Morris County Clerk seems to think she’s right and the other twenty county clerks are wrong.  Spoiler Alert: she’s wrong.
BRIAN GOLDBERG HIRSH SINGH
The GOP U.S. Senate candidate essentially clears the field as the sole opponent to establishment favorite Bob Hugin by launching successful challenges to his opponents’ petitions.  The GOP congressional candidate may have trouble uniting his party if he wins the primary amidst resentment over the way he handled Brian Fitzherbert’s petition challenge.
SAMANTHA MALTZMAN RICHARD COWEN
The Menendez for Senate finance director raised $1.8 million for her candidate in the first quarter and $7.5 million overall.  The old media reporter for The Record breaks a news story that was fifteen days old, and still thinks he’s the one who broke it.
ANDRE SAYEGH JUDGES WHO ENDORSE THEIR WIVES
The Paterson city councilman continues to rack up endorsements and is the clear front runner to be the next mayor of Paterson after the May 8 municipal elections. Two Superior Court Judges, Louis Sceusi and Tom Callahan, may have violated the judicial code of conduct by signing their wives’ county committee petitions.  A complaint has already been filed against Sceusi.  Note to judges: stop signing nominating petitions.
