Former State Gov. Bob Gordon (D-Fair Lawn) will give up his seat on the New Jersey Transit Board of Directors next month when his term expires.

“I consider the experience to be a positive one, and I’m moving on,” Gordon said.

Gordon’s term ends on December 6, and his last meeting on the unsalaried board will be on December 12.

The departure of Gordon will leave two vacancies on the 13-member board.

Earlier this year, Gordon left his post as a commissioner of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, and joined Stevens & Lee Public Affairs in September.

A former campaign aide to 1972 Democratic presidential candidate Ed Muskie, Gordon served as mayor of Fair Lawn and as an assemblyman before capturing a State Senate seat in 2007.  He was chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, Majority Conference Leader, and head of the Senate Manufacturing Caucus.  Early in his career, he worked at the President’s Council on Environmental Quality, and the Congressional Budget Office.

He left the Senate in 2018 after Gov. Phil Murphy nominated him to serve on the BPU, where he was involved in developing New Jersey’s renewable energy policy.
