Williams elected Union County Freeholder

By David Wildstein, May 31 2018 11:08 pm

Plainfield Councilwoman Rebecca Williams was elected to the Union County Board of Freeholders on tonight.  Williams won the seat vacated by Linda Carter (D-Plainfield), who replaced the late Jerry Green in the State Assembly.

Williams won a special election convention held by the Union County Democratic organization by acclamation.  She will also seek Carter’s unexpired term in a special election this November.

Her election to the freeholder board will require her resignation from the Plainfield City Council.  The local Democratic Party will submit three names to the city council, who will then pick a replacement.  That candidate will in November as well.
