State Sen. Nicholas Scutari (D-Linden) had to turn people away at a sold-out $1,500-per-person fundraiser at Citi Field last night.
Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin was among the special guests in two luxury boxes that will help boost Scutari’s coffers for his 2021 re-election campaign. Former All-Star pitcher Doc Gooden was on hand to sign autographs.
Scutari’s annual baseball fundraiser has become one of the premier fundraising events of the political season. The longtime Yankees fan shifted his event to Citi Field a few years ago to maximize profits, since Yankee Stadium— based on its superiority — is more expensive.
Now in his 15th year as a senator, Scutari is at the peak of his political power. He is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and, since February, the Union County Democratic Chairman.
