The Prospect Park school district has taken some steps to ensure all substitute teachers complete a background check after a state audit conducted by acting Comptroller Kevin Walsh found the district failed to properly maintain evidence such checks had been conducted.
In a follow-up report issued by the comptroller’s office Wednesday, the school promised to confirm background checks with the Office of Student Protection and to maintain a list of approved substitute teachers that would be updated throughout the school year.
The comptroller’s office said the district had not formalized either of those policies.
