A prominent New Hampshire Democratic insider says Cory Booker is “my favorite and my front runner” for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, according to a report on WMUR-TV.

In 2006, Jim Demers, a former state representative, was the first New Hampshire Democrat to endorse Barack Obama for president; he later served as Co-Chairman of Obama’s New Hampshire campaign.

“I was immediately really impressed with how genuine he is, and having spent some time with him, I saw his ability to connect with people, especially young people. And it was just as I was struck by Barack Obama when I first met him,” Demers told WMUR’s John DiStaso. “I see Cory Booker as Obama 2.0.”

Demers said he “personally lobbied Hillary Clinton” to choose Booker as her running mate, but says Clinton told him she couldn’t pick a Senator from a state with a Republican governor out of fear of losing the seat.
