Essex County Democrats weighed in heavily for Bob Menendez tonight, with Essex County Democratic Chairman LeRoy Jones, Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo and Senate President Pro-Tempore Teresa Ruiz endorsing the Senators’ re-election campaign.
Jones said that Menendez has “the full support of the Essex County Democratic Committee.”
“Robert Menendez has been an outstanding public servant for his entire career – he has been a leader on all levels of government, and continues that legacy of hard work and commitment to his constituents in the United States Senate,” Jones said. “Essex County and our residents need Senator Menendez back in Washington, DC, fighting for what is important to us.”
DiVincenzo, who will seek a fourth term on an organization line with Menendez, says that he’s known the Senator for over thirty years and praised his leadership.
“As I seek my own re-election in 2018, I cannot think of anyone better to lead our ticket in Essex County than Senator Menendez,” DiVincenzo said. “Now, more than ever, we stand strong with Robert Menendez.”
Ruiz, the highest ranking Latina in state government, said that Menendez’s service “has always extended beyond the boundaries that any district map defines.”
“Since the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria, he has given the people of Puerto Rico a voice through his ongoing commitment and compassion. New Jersey and our nation need Senator Menendez, and I am proud to call him my friend,” said Ruiz.
Ruiz, whose power base comes from Newark’s North Ward, is also the Vice Chair of the Essex Democratic Party.
