Environmental group endorses 9 Democratic Assembly nominees

Clean Water Action, a national environmental group with nearly a million members, endorsed a slate of nine Democratic Assembly nominees on Friday.

The group endorsed Assemblywoman Andrea Katz in LD-8, Assemblywomen Margie Donlon and Luanne Peterpaul in LD-11, Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson in LD-15, Assemblywoman Alixon Collazos-Gill in LD-27, Katie Brennan and Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla in LD-32, and Assemblywomen Ellen Park and Shama Haider in LD-37.

“We are beyond excited to announce our slate for this upcoming General Election,” State Director Amy Goldsmith said. “As our environmental protections are being rolled back at the federal level, New Jerseyans need a Legislature and local governments they can trust to put their health first. Our endorsed candidates will ensure a cleaner, greener, healthier future for New Jersey and its families.”

Some candidates — like Katz, Donlon, and Peterpaul — face competitive races this fall. Others, like Brennan and Bhalla, are shoo-ins for victory.

“I am honored to be endorsed by Clean Water Action,” said Katz, a Democratic incumbent in one of the state’s most competitive Assembly races. “My district is special because we are the heart of the Pine Barrens, and I will always stand up to ensure it is protected for generations to come.”

Clean Water Action endorsed Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), the Democratic nominee for governor, this summer.

The group also endorsed a slate of four council candidates in Red Bank: Kristina Bonatakis, Ben Forest, Laura Jannone, and Ben Yuro.
