DEVASTATING BLOW: Senate Confirms Pompeo, Muslim Communities Pledge to Fight Back
MPower Change Action: “A Vote for Pompeo is a Vote for Bigotry”
New York, NY – Today, the Senate moved to confirm Mike Pompeo for Secretary of State despite national backlash from communities across the United States.
MPower Change Action Campaign Director Mohammad Khan, had this to say:
“A vote for Pompeo is a vote for bigotry, and puts Muslim communities and communities of color across the nation and the world at risk.
“Today, it’s clear the Senate has lost their moral compass, and the American people need to remind them. They’ve confirmed an anti-Muslim bigot eager to dismantle basic human rights and fuel the winds of Islamophobia and hatred across the U.S. and around the world.
“Democratic leadership failed to prioritize unifying opposition to Pompeo, and as a result the U.S. is now on a path away from diplomacy and towards increased war and bigotry.
“Our power to resist Trump’s war cabinet lies in our unity, our collective voice, and the power to organize millions across the country. Together, we will challenge our local, state and federal officials to stand against Trump and Pompeo as they bring their anti-Muslim bigotry to the world stage.”
