Gov. Phil Murphy will endorse Joe Biden for president during a virtual roundtable at 3:30 PM.
Murphy had originally endorsed New Jersey favorite son Cory Booker for the Democratic presidential nomination and stayed out of the race following Booker’s withdrawal in January.
His endorsement comes as no surprise, but the failure of Biden to call Murphy as New Jersey was facing the coronavirus pandemic did catch the attention of many leading New Jersey Democrats.
Today, Murphy will join Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont on the roundtable.
Booker has already endorsed Biden, but the state’s senior U.S. Senator, Bob Menendez, still has not.
Bernie Sanders has dropped out of the race and endorsed Biden, but is name remains on the ballot in the July 7 New Jersey primary. Sanders has a full slate of delegate candidates running in that primary, some top Murphy supporters.
