A new Fairleigh Dickinson University poll of Newark residents shows President Joe Biden with favorables of 69%-16% in New Jersey’s largest city.

Biden’s approvals are higher than Gov. Phil Murphy (64%) and two Newark residents: U.S. Senator Cory Booker (61%) and Mayor Ras Baraka (60%).

The president’s favorables are at 84%-7% among Democrats, 45%-25% among independents, and 35%-49% among Republicans.  Biden is at 76%-9% among Blacks, 62%-20% among Hispanics, and 62%-28% among Whites.  Most Portuguese residents of Newark identified as White in the poll.

In the 2020 presidential election, Biden carried Newark by an 87%-12% margin against incumbent Donald Trump.  Biden received more actual votes in Newark than any other candidate in history but came out of the election three percentage points behind U.S. Senator Cory Booker a former Newark mayor.

The FDU poll, released on Monday, was conducted between July 9 and August 11.  It has a sample size of 1,100 Newark residents and a margin of error of +/- 3%.
