A straw poll conducted of the 1,525 attendees at a Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) in Dallas over the weekend showed no support for former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s potential bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
Former President Donald Trump received 70%, followed by 21% for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Four others – U.S. Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, and FOX News host Tucker Carlson – each received 1%.
Trump won a CPAC straw poll in Orlando in February with 55%. Christie didn’t show up in that poll either.
A March 2013 CPAC straw poll put Christie in fourth place with 7%. Paul won that poll with 25%, followed by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio at 23%. Trump did not register in that poll.
One year later, Paul topped U.S. Senator Ted Cruz in the CPAC poll, 31%-11%, with Ben Carson finishing third with 9% and Christie in fourth with 8%.
Christie sought the presidency in 2016, but his campaign collapsed after a sixth place finish in New Hampshire, where even the endorsement of the influential Union Leader newspaper couldn’t propel him beyond 7.4% of the vote.
