A former member of Gov. Phil Murphy’s staff is the new deputy administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, an agency with a mission to prevent crashes, fatalities, and injuries that involve buses and large trucks.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg announced the appointment of Vinn White on Tuesday.

“It is an honor to take on this role, and I thank Secretary Buttigieg for his trust and confidence in my ability to lead the important work of FMCSA,” White said. “Our agency is focused on enhancing safety for all roadway users, and I am committed to working with safety partners across the commercial motor vehicle industry to get this work done.”

White held transportation posts in the Obama administration before coming to Trenton to work as Murphy’s transportation policy advisor.  He left in 2021 to return to Washington as a member of the Biden administration.

He started in politics as a regional field director for Obama for America in 2008, working in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and South Dakota.  He is a graduate of the County College of Morris and American University.
