Booker launches first paid ad

Says love and unity message is the way to beat Trump

Cory Booker has released his first paid ad, focusing on his message of love and unity.

The ad will air on digital platforms as part of a six-figure buy to reach the polling threshold Booker needs to qualify for the December presidential debate.

Booker narrates the ad in his own voice: “I’m here today because of love. A heroic love that pushed people to march, knowing they could be beaten, and board buses, knowing they could be bombed. From Seneca Falls to Selma to Stonewall, the truth of America is that we win when we come together and show the best of who we are against the worst that we face.”

“That’s how we’ve beaten demagogues and bigots before, that’s how we’ll beat Donald Trump. And that’s how I’ll lead as your president. I’m Cory Booker and I approve this message.”

Appearing on Face the Nation this morning, CBS’ John Dickerson said the ad is being launched at a point where Booker is “struggling to stay alive.”

The New Jersey senator maintained that his message of love and unity is working.

“We see from local leaders in Iowa, New Hampshire, there’s no candidate that has more endorsements than I do from folks that are on the ground trying to make things happen for American people. We see my favorabilities now number three in net favorability in Iowa,” Booker said.  “So, it’s working it’s not translating to people choosing me in the polls.

Booker has events scheduled in South Carolina today and tomorrow, including a meet-and-greet hosted by former Democratic National Chairman Don Fowler in Columbia.
