Veteran sportswriter Joe Martino has been named news director of the Courier News, Home News Tribune and MyCentralJersey.com.

He succeeds Paul Grzella, who took an early retirement package offered by Gannett, the parent company of the two daily newspapers.

Martino started as a Courier News sports reporter in 2009 and joined the digital team in 2013.  He has been the content strategist for the newspapers since 2018.

MyCentralJersey first reported Martino’s appointment.

“Joe is a dedicated, goal-oriented and energetic individual with a passionate interest in feeding the news needs of people working and living in Central Jersey,” Hollis Towns, northeast regional editor for Gannett and the USA TODAY Network told MyCentralJersey.  “His deep local roots and his proven record of success will help the USA TODAY Network continue to thrive in Central Jersey and statewide.”
