The (Bergen) Record broke the story of the new Shake Shack at the Willowbrook Mall at 9:01 AM, beating the Star-Ledger by 4 hours and 43 minutes.
The Star-Ledger, which once dominated coverage of the Wayne-based mall, did not credit The Record as being first to report the story in the highly-competitive mall news beat.
Both newspapers snagged an interview with Jeffrey Amoscato, the Shake Shack VP who happens to live in Wayne. And both reported that the new restaurant will carry the Pie Oh My, although only The Record described the dessert as “concrete, and chunks of its devil’s-food cake will be combined with salted caramel.”
While The Record was first with the Shake Shack story, the Star-Ledger still employs a Capitol Hill reporter.
