Shari Weiner will not return as Livingston township attorney in 2021, ending an 18-year run in the Democratic stronghold.
She will be replaced by Jarrid Kantor, a Livingston resident whose law firm, Antonelli Kantor, represents multiple municipalities across the state.
Weiner was elected to the township council in 1982 and was defeated for re-election in 1986. She was succeeded as mayor by David Wildstein, who is now the editor of the New Jersey Globe.
A past president of the Women’s Political Caucus of New Jersey, Weiner served as assistant counsel to the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.
A Democratic county committeeman, Kantor is the Roselle park municipal attorney and the former Dover municipal attorney.
His job comes with some security: with the exception of two years, Democrats have been in the majority party in Livingston since they won control in 1974.
Weiner was the second longest-serving township attorney in Livingston history. Louis Bort held the post for 22 years until he was replaced when party control changed after the 1974 election.
