Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage has won a record ninth four-year term as mayor of New Jersey’s fourth-largest city, running unopposed. He is the longest-serving mayor in Elizabeth’s history.
Four incumbents — Patricia Perkins-Auguste, Many Grova, Jr., and Frank Questa — ran unopposed.
Bollwage was first elected in 1992, at age 38, ousting seven-term incumbent Thomas Dunn in the Democratic primary. He is the longest-serving mayor of a city of more than 100,000 people in the U.S.
His last real challenge came in the 2012 Democratic primary; Bollwage defeated Oscar Ocasio with 71% of the vote.
