Ocean County Republicans have endorsed Richard Tabor, a State Trooper and U.S. Army veteran, for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination to take on Democratic incumbent Cory Booker in the fall.

Tabor defeated former Tabernacle Deputy Mayor Justin Michael Murphy, 167-17, with 5 votes for former News 12 reporter Alex Zdan.

Zdan, Natalie Rivera, and Dr. Robert Levovics did not participate in the Ocean GOP convention.

In addition to Ocean, Tabor has secured party backing in Atlantic, Hudson, Hunterdon, and Union counties.  Zdan won party support in Cumberland, Cape May, Essex, Passaic, and Salem, while Murphy has won endorsements in Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer.

Tabor faces questions from party leaders about his role in a wrongful death lawsuit, and an internal investigation into him by the State Police.

Ocean County has the largest Republican registration in the state; 12% of all Republicans in New Jersey live in Ocean County.
