Passaic County Freeholder T.J. Best has joined the New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association as director of government affairs.

“T.J. is a dedicated public servant who has been a tireless advocate for improving educational outcomes for all kids throughout his career,” said Harry Lee, the association president. “His depth of experience and knowledge of government and New Jersey’s educational system is unparalleled. He is a bold and innovative leader who is not afraid to reimagine what education can look like in the Garden State.

Best served on the Paterson Board of Education and worked on Capitol Hill as an aide to Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-Paterson) before his election to the Board of Freeholders in 2011.  He’s up for re-election to a fourth term this year and is heavily favored to win.

“I am a parent who has a child in a traditional public school as well as in a public charter school. I am fortunate to live in a community that has allowed my family to choose the best educational fit for each of my children,” said Best. “I have seen firsthand the impact that public charter schools have on students, their families, and the community at large.

Lee also announced that Bob Guarasci, the founder and CEP of the New Jersey Community Development Foundation, has joined their Board of Trustees.

The New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association represents 87 charter schools serving about 57,000 students,.
