Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), a former Navy helicopter pilot and Annapolis graduate, wants Sussex County Commissioner Bill Hayden to resign after getting caught lying about his military service in a Stolen Valor Scandal.
“Lying about military service to advance one’s political career is insulting to the men and women who actually served, put their lives on the line, and know firsthand the sacrifice it entails. And as a Navy veteran and Representative, I find it abhorrent,” said Sherrill. “The people of Sussex County deserve to be represented by elected officials that they can trust – Hayden should resign immediately.”
Sherrill represented part of Sussex County during her first four years in Congress.
The call for Hayden’s resignation has been so widespread that the left, including Sussex Democratic Chair Zoe Heath and Democratic congressional candidate Sue Altman, are allied with conservatives like State Sen. Parker Space (R-Wantage) and Sussex GOP Chairman Joe LaBarbera.
Reps. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield), Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff), and Andy Kim (D-Moorestown), Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia (R-Franklin), Assemblyman Mike Inganamort (R-Chester), and First Lady Tammy Murphy, have pushed for Hayden’s resignation.
