The Somerset County Republican convention is headed to a runoff between two candidates seeking Bob Menendez’s U.S. Senate seat: Mendham Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner and hotelier Curtis Bashaw.
Bashaw received 90 votes (42%), followed by 68 for Serrano Glassner (32%), and 50 votes (23%) for Zdan. Another candidate, U.S. Navy veteran Albert Harshaw, received 6 votes (3%).
Donald Trump scored an easy first-ballot victory over Nikki Haley, 171 to 52, 77%-23%.
In the race for county commissioner, Nick Cuozzo, a Bernards Planning Board member and former Somerset County grants coordinator (152) and Rocky Ganta, an engineer and businessman who serves on the Warren Township Environmental Commission (148) defeated Bernards school board member Kirsten Light (98) and Noah Fofanah, a former Franklin council candidate (36).
Somerset County Republicans nominated Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) to run for re-election in the 7th district, and Darius Mayfield to take on Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing) in the 12th.
