A new cable TV and digital ad in Hudson County features popular Union City Mayor and State Sen. Brian P. Stack’s endorsement of Gabe Rodriguez and Larry Wainstein for State Assembly in the 33rd district, along with Mikie Sherrill for Governor and Jimmy Davis for Sheriff.
The ad features Stack urging Democrats to join together to support his ticket in the June 10 Democratic primary.
Script: “(Stack) And you win elections on the street, in the neighborhoods. I need everybody to pick up the phone — tomorrow, every single day up until Election Day. Talk to your neighbors. Talk to your friends. Call everybody. Take nothing for granted. Don’t leave one voter home. (Narrator) On Tuesday, June 10th, vote for the Brian Stack team. They’re fighting for the people. (Stack) Mikie Sherrill for governor. Gabe Rodriguez for Assembly. Larry Weinstein for Assembly. Jimmy Davis for Sheriff.”
The primary is part of a Hudson County Democratic Civil War, where the county organization is fighting multiple battles in an election where the county line no longer exists. Key Democrats, including County Executive Craig Guy, West New York Mayor Albio Sires, Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner, and Davis, the mayor of Bayonne, are backing Sherrill in the Democratic governor; the other faction, led by North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco, are supporting Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop.
In the 33rd district, Rodriguez, a former West New York mayor, is seeking a second term in the Assembly; he’s running with Wainstein, a businessman and a fierce Sacco critic. They face former North Bergen Board of Education member Tony Hector and Frank Alonso, a onetime Republican.
