Randy Brolo, the South Jersey business development manager of the Laborers’ Union, will succeed Assemblyman Balvir Singh (D-Burlington Twp) on the Burlington County Commission.
Brolo defeated Stephen Steglik, the deputy mayor of Mount Laurel, in a runoff at the Burlington County Democratic convention Saturday morning 148-69, 68%-32%.
In the first ballot vote, Brolo received 115 votes (43%), and Steglik received 72 (27%), but they didn’t reach the 50% threshold needed to win election to the seat.
A total of 51 county committee members (19%) declined to wait around for a second ballot in a vote to seat someone in public office.
Singh resigned from the commission after he won a special election to succeed now-Rep. Herb Conaway Jr., who succeeded now-Senator Andy Kim.
Eliminated after the first ballot were Murianda Ruffin, an assistant Atlantic County counsel who lives in Evesham (38), Bordentown Township Deputy Mayor Eugene Fuzy (27), Saima Bhutta of Evesham, a member of Gov. Phil Murphy’s Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Commission (13), and KD Patel, an insurance broker from Marlton (3).
