Atlantic City Mayor Frank Gilliam pleaded guilty to stealing more than $87,000 from a youth basketball league, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer.
Gilliam, elected mayor in 2017, now faces up to 20 years in prison, although it will likely be much less.
Council President Marty Small is expected to become Acting Mayor until a November 2020 special election.
Gilliam was charged by federal prosecutors with wire fraud.
