Rahway Democratic Municipal Chair Kevin O’Brien has retired after six years in office and was replaced by Danni Newbury, a city councilwoman.
O’Brien started out in politics in 1968 as a volunteer on Hubert Humphrey’s presidential campaign and has been a county committeeman since 1974.
“I been proud to stand with progressive, caring candidates whose commitment to the working families of America cannot be denied,” O’Brien said. “Compared to the hate-filled agenda of today’s MAGA Republicans, supporting Democratic candidates like these is the only real choice for those of us who care for the future of this country that we love.”
A strong ally of Senate President Nicholas Scutari and Mayor Raymond Giacobbe, O’Brien became municipal chairman in 2018 after Mayor Samson Steinman stepped down. He was a former Democratic Club president.
